Source(google.com.pk)What Causes Dog Skin Rash?
The likelihood of your pet suffering from a skin rash at least once in its lifetime is fairly high. Generally, a dog rash is not a cause of major concern for most people, since it can go away on its own after some time. However, these rashes can be very uncomfortable and painful, leading to a much larger health problem. It is important to treat your dog if it has a rash, so that it may be a happy and healthy animal. The causes of skin irritations and rashes are many, and vary depending on the animal’s environment.
Other Causes of Rashes in Pets
Environmental allergies are a leading cause of rashes in dogs. These allergies can include exposure to chemicals in pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, household detergents, shampoos and other similar items. Rashes caused by these chemicals are normally red, hot, itchy spots that appear raised. The best ways to treat these rashes are to discontinue the dog’s contact with the chemicals, and apply milk of magnesia to the rashes. Other natural cures include rubbing diluted baking soda or green tea on the affected area.
External and internal parasites can also cause dog rashes. Rashes caused by fleas are usually red pimple-like bumps, and can be treated with flea medication purchased from a veterinarian’s office. On the other hand, rashes caused by mites appear raw and can be treated with miticide. Internal parasites such as worms can also cause belly rashes and to treat them, a veterinarian must first thoroughly examine the dog rash to identify the type of worm before prescribing a treatment.
Treatments for Rashes
Yeast infections sometimes cause skin rashes on dogs. Rashes caused by yeast infection have an unpleasant odor and appear red and flaky. They sometimes leave scaly patches on the skin. Your dog should be examined by a veterinarian who will prescribe oral medication to treat fungus. Sometimes, special shampoo may be recommended for treatment of the infection.Immune-mediated disease can sometimes manifest itself in the form of red pimples on the dog’s nose. If not treated early, the rash can easily spread to other areas, causing open sores to appear on the animal’s skin. The rash can only be treated by a qualified veterinarian. The vet will first diagnose the disease and perform a biopsy on the infected area. A corticosteroid is usually prescribed to treat the infection. Owners of dogs affected by this disease are usually advised to keep the dog out of sunlight until it is completely cured.Seborrhea is another condition that can be very irritating. It is the canine form of dandruff. It makes the dog’s skin appear flaky, and sometimes red pimples can appear. To treat seborrhea, anti-dandruff shampoo specially made for dogs can be used. The dogs should be cleaned frequently. Shampoos containing benzyl peroxide and salicylic acid can be dangerous, it is always best to use a natural shampoo.
