Skin Rashes are the outbreak of bumps which can be red in color and have a change in texture. They can be itchy, painful, swollen, sensitive and irritating. They can be either localized or can spread all over the body. Some rashes disappear in a day or two, whereas some rashes take days to go. There are a lot of reasons behind these rashes, among which allergy is the major cause. Smoke, dust, soaps, perfumes, etc. are some of the products which may trigger this skin condition. However, there are effective treatments and home remedies that can help you to get rid of this skin problem.

Causes of Red Rash

● Contact Dermatitis
Contact dermatitis is a common rash which is caused by coming in contact with some chemical or substance with which one is allergic. These rashes may sometimes be oozy which may result in the spread of infection to other parts of the body. Poison ivy is one of the most common examples of contact dermatitis.

● Psoriasis
This is a lifelong disease and is generally transmitted genetically. In this condition the skin cells start multiplying very fast which results in the formation of lesions. It can be formed in any part of the body. Stress and Streptococcal infection are some of the factors which may trigger this skin problem.

● Eczema
Eczema is a condition in which the skin becomes irritated or inflamed. This skin condition is also known as atopic dermatitis. It is a result of genetic defects and is most common in young children. This skin condition is triggered by high humidity, chemicals found in soap and perfumes, food allergy, stress, etc.

● Measles
Measles is a contagious disease. It starts appearing after other symptoms such as fever, dry cough, sore throat, reddening of eyes, running nose, red skin rash, etc. Its symptoms develop within 10-12 days after getting exposed to this virus.

● Hives
Hives, known as urticaria in medical terms, are red welts which are extremely itchy. It is a common allergic reaction which can be caused due to drugs (such as penicillin), chemicals (sulfur, etc.), metal (nickel, etc.), insect sting, foods (milk, egg, fish, soya, nuts, etc.), extreme environmental conditions, pollens, weeds, etc. Raised, warm, itchy areas are some of the major symptoms of hives. Urticaria can be observed at any age and can happen to both men and women. But chronic hive is more prevalent in the age group of 40-50.

● Ringworm
Ringworm is a fungal infection resulting from a microscopic organisms, Tinea Corporis. The ringworm rash is circular and inflamed on the edges, with normal skin in the middle. It does not generally spread, but low immunity and poor personal hygiene may result in the spread of this infection to other parts of the body.

● Scarlet Fever
This disease is caused by group A Streptococcus bacteria and is highly contagious. Initially, rashes will be observed in the chest and stomach and then it can spread all over the body. Sore throat, swollen glands and strawberry- like tongue are some of the other symptoms of scarlet fever.

Red Rash Treatment

The treatment for red rash depends on the cause and differs with the condition. If the reason for red rash is allergy, there won't be a need of medical treatments. Staying away from the allergens is a treatment itself. For eczema, one will have to consult a doctor as he will suggest special eczema treatments and creams. Measles vaccine was invented long back and it is necessary to vaccinate infants to prevent them from this contagious disease. Anti-itch creams or antihistamines can provide instant relief. Calamine lotions can also help in reducing irritation. Following are some of the home remedies that can help you to get relief from red rashes.

Mix honey and apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and have it three times a day. It is very effective for allergies.
By applying olive oil on the rashes you can get instant relief.
Having vitamin C supplements or fruits which are rich in vitamin C can help in healing rashes.
Wash the rashes with chamomile tea for instant relief.
Oatmeal bath is considered one of the best treatments for itchy body rashes. Jut put one cup of oatmeal in the bathwater and soak for 15-20 minutes. Do this daily till you get rid of the rashes.
